Are you curious how the app is being designed?
Prep Junior referenced closely to the work of Lev Vygotsky (1934) who has made it to the foundation of much research and theory in cognitive development over many decades, particularly of what has been widely known as Social Development Theory. According to Vygotsky theories, it stressed the fundamental role of social interaction in the development of cognition (Vygotsky, 1978) as he believed strongly that community, environment and culture play a central role. Since language is both a symbolic system of communication and a cultural tool used to transmit culture and history, play is an essential part of both language development and a child’s understanding of the external world. When a child is at play, he or she is in a constant dialogue either with self or others.
As such, the app is designed as a game to learn a new language like Mandarin, which according to the theories above, would help a child’s understanding of the external world and help in language development.
